Karnataka launches E-Step to empower student start-ups

The Department of IT, BT and S&T in Karnataka, through Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS), has launched the E-Step, an initiative to empower student start-ups. E-Step focuses on boot camps, mentoring and training programmes which cover various aspects of entrepreneurship. E-Step, an initiative from Start-up Cell, is a specially crafted for students/start-ups/entrepreneurs to understand the basics of entrepreneurship from experienced trainers.

Ex-Supreme Court judge Madan Lokur sworn in as a judge of Fiji SC

Justice Madan Lokur, who retired from the Supreme Court of India in December last year, has been appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Fiji. He was sworn in by the President of Fiji Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Jioji Konrote, in the presence of the Chief Justice Kamal Kumar and others. This is for the first time that an Indian has been appointed to the Supreme Court of another country.

Alejandro Giammattei has been elected as new president of Guatemala. Giammattei will succeed outgoing President Jimmy Morales.

Music star DJ Arafat passes away

Ivory Coast music star DJ Arafat passed away. He issued 11 albums, mainly of “coupe-decale”, a dance music form combining rapid percussion, choppy rhythms with hip hop-style vocals. He was also named “Best Artist of the Year” at the Ivorian “Coupe-decale” Awards in 2016 and 2017.

“Sridevi: Girl Woman Superstar” a book on the life of Sridevi released

The book, titled ‘Sridevi: Girl Woman Superstar’ will be launched on Sridevi’s 56th birth anniversary. The book is written by author-screenwriter Satyarth Nayak. The booknot only chronicle Sridevi’s journey and successes in the Indian film industry but also her innings after her big screen comeback in 2012 with ‘English Vinglish’.

Centre launches Swachh Nagar app for waste collection

Swachh Nagar app, an app that will allow users to have waste — solid, wet or construction and demolition (C&D) — collected by their urban local bodies was launched by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, along with a new protocol on wastewater treatment that would become a part of cleanliness rankings of cities.

  • Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri also launched the Swachh Survekshan 2020 (SS 2020), the fifth edition of the annual cleanliness survey conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).


Uber for tractors’: Government to launch app to aid farmers

The center and agriculture ministry have decided to launch a new revolutionary app which will help the rural farmers to access cutting-edge technology in an affordable price at their doorsteps. With this new mobile application, farmers can book and hire all the expensive agricultural equipment which is beyond the reach for any average small farmers.

  • Keeping in mind the popular app ‘Uber’, the government named it ‘Uber for Tractors’ which aims to reach and connect among the grass root level people and farmers as Uber connects to cabs.

Odisha CM dedicates ‘The Rath’ to the people

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has dedicated ‘The Rath,’ a steel monument seeking to accentuate Odisha’s diverse culture and rich heritage, to the people. The steel monument, located at the picturesque Biju Patnaik Park in Bhubaneswar, is presented by Tata Steel in collaboration with Bhubaneswar Development Authority.



Panchamirtham’ of Palani temple gets GI tag

The famous Palani panchamirtham, given as ‘prasadam’ at the Murugan temple in Tamil Nadu, has been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. This is the first time a temple ‘prasadam’ from Tamil Nadu has been bestowed with the GI tag.


Newly-Discovered lake in Nepal likely to become World’s Highest

A newly-discovered lake in Nepal is likely to set a new record of being the world’s highest lake replacing Tilicho, which is situated at an altitude of 4,919 metres in the Himalayan nation and currently holding the title.

The Kajin Sara lake in Manang district was discovered about a few months ago by a team of mountaineers. It is located at Singarkharka area of Chame rural municipality.

India contributes $1 million to UN fund

India has contributed USD one million to the UN Special Purpose Trust Fund for the Resident Coordinator System. The Special Purpose Trust Fund (SPTF) is a specific fund housed within the UN Secretariat established to receive, consolidate, manage and account for all contributions and financial transactions of the new Resident Coordinator system in a transparent and effective way.

Kohli becomes first batsman to score 20,000 international runs in a decade


Indian skipper Virat Kohli added yet another feather in his cap as he became the first batsman to score 20,000 international runs in a single decade.

  • Kohli now has 20,502 runs across all three formats of the game. Out of these 20,502, Kohli has scored 20,018 in the ongoing decade. Earlier, Australia’s former skipper Ricky Ponting held the record for scoring most international runs in a decade with 18,962 runs to his credit in the 2000s.

The Indian Embassy in Bulgaria felicitated filmmaker Rohit Shetty on the Independence Day with a certificate of Appreciation. It is being presented to Shetty for his outstanding contribution in bringing Bollywood movie shooting and production to Bulgaria. This comes after his 2015 film ‘Dilwale’ starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol together after years, became the reason behind the surge in the number of tourists from India flying to Bulgaria.
